For the past five years, writer/director/editor Mike Flanagan has been slowly climbing the ranks of Hollywood.
He's been steadily working, adding to his filmography and garnering acclaim along the way. His films like Asentia and Hush were indie hits, while before he dipped his toe into the more largely-budgeted world of sequels and adaptations, delivering stupefyingly good films like the Ouija sequel, Ouija: Origin of Evil, and an adaptation of Stephen King's deep-cut book, Gerald's Game.

Which is not made any easier by the fact that King apparently hates Kubrick's film, so Flanagan finds himself in a position in which he has to adapt the sequel in a way that will both please film fans and King himself.
But if anyone is up to the task, it's Flanagan. He's shown how adept he is at handling supernatural trauma time and time again, and with a lead actor like Ewan McGregor playing the role
